A total of five hundred and nine (509) qualified youths in Anambra have received certificates of empowerment from the state government.

The youths were trained in various skills ranging from computer, craft work, hair dressing and body care, leatherworks, hotel and catering management, cosmetology, block laying, electrical installation and barbing, among others.

The event which took place at the King David hotel, Awka had its theme of the year tagged “Re-imagining Youth Skills Post Pandemic” which aims at celebrating the resilience and creativity of youths throughout the COVID-19 crisis.

Speaking, the Commissioner for Youths Empowerment and Creative Economy, Hon. Prof. Theresa Nkechi Obiekezie noted that in celebrating the world skill day, Governor Obiano through the ministry has certified the youths with Grade 11 and Grade 111 Trade Test Certificates in their respective trained skills.

According to the Commissioner, “these certificates will enable the trained youths gain employment both in private companies and government offices around the world”.

Obiekezie added that the youths have undergone programmes such as the One Youth One Skill Training, Project Smart Jobs, Youths in Agriculture, Youths Entreprenuership Start-ups, Triple “I” (Inventor, Investor, Initiative) among others.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youths, Mrs. Louisa Ezeanya appreciated the state government for the opportunity made available for the youths while urging the newly trained and certified youths to utilise what they have learnt to become productive members of the society.
