Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has tasked the newly appointed board members of Assa North Cluster Board/Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to ensure that they drive peace, unity and security in order to allow government, oil companies and corporate bodies to invest massively in Awarra Court Area of the state.

The Governor while swearing-in the board members on Monday at All Citizens Hotels Owerri, urged them to design a roadmap, engage oil companies, SPDC, investors and other stakeholders of the area for investment and viable infrastructure, advising them against failure, corruption, diversion of funds and insubordination to achieve maximum result.

The Governor who was represented by his Special Adviser on Petroleum and Gas Matters, Rt. Hon. Goodluck Nana Opiah, hinted that members of the board were painstakingly selected with due consultation of the people of the area hence they must not afford to shy away from meeting the objective for which they were constituted.

He charged oil companies and other investors to ensure that corporate responsibilities as reached with the host communities through the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMOU) are met to advance peace, security and development.

In his inaugural speech, Chairman of the board, Mr. Onyiriuka Anayo, promised that the board will not disappoint government and the cluster (host communities), saying they will work cordially and efficiently to maintain peace and security to attract solid investment for even development.

“Peace and security of lives and property will return and we will ensure that, electricity, good road, water, healthcare among others become the order of the day at the cluster areas.

“We will enshrine all good qualities of good leadership to enable us deliver as expected. We will expunge injustice and all forms of evil to succeed. We thank government and SPDC for finding us worthy of the task”, Onyiriuka reiterated.
