Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has been described as a gender – friendly politician. This is because he has appointed many women into his government, ranging from Imo State Universal Basic Education Board, Civil Service Commission, Revenue Mobilization, Consumer Protection Council among others who are doing greatly and contributing to the economic development and social progress of Imo State.

This appraisal was given by the Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Dr. Princess Rabiu Ibrahim and APC State Women Leader, Hon. Mrs. Nneoma Ifeoma Ndukwu, during the official inauguration of Hope Uzodimma Women Support Group (HUWSG), held at the APC secretariat, Owerri, on Wednesday.

The Commissioner said that she is happy and satisfied with the level of women participation in politics and governance in the state, affirming that “our Governor has done well when it comes to women affairs. He is gender – friendly. You can see the number of Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Advisers and Chairpersons working and performing well in his government. There are a lot of women aspirants springing up from the State Assembly, Reps and Senate. The only seat we do not have a woman is the governorship, may be by the time our dear Governor finishes his tenure a woman will emerge”.

Ibrahim who doubled as the Focal Person for NC Programs in Imo State and the founder of HUWSG, noted that HUWSG is a political pressure group that is saddled with the duty to “galvanize support for APC especially for our Governor and candidates, as well as look into the matter affecting our women from the wards, local governments and polling units with a view to assisting them by way of empowerment. The essence is to also ensure that Imo women have a voice to achieve their percentage in appointive and elective positions. Because when you work you have to enjoy the benefit of the hard work. When we support APC candidates, elections won, we will be remembered when goodies come”.

Inaugurating the group earlier, APC Women Leader, Hon. Nneoma Ifeoma, charged the women to discharge their assigned duties of coordinating the women from the state, local governments, down to the polling units creditably to know more about politics and how effective to participate in government.

According to Ndukwu, the group is “charged to bring the women together to solve their problems because sometimes, women are being marginalized because they are not together. There are many women in government performing well and our Governor is caring about women and we advise women to always come out en masse to do politics, bring their voices together, so that they will not be divided while shunning political acrimony to move the state forward”.

Vowing never to fail in their assigned responsibilities of galvanizing women at the respective LGAs, Ward’s and Polling Units, Coordinator for Ohaji/Egbema LGA, Mrs. Amaechi Cynthia, promised that they “will always adhere to the instructions given to us by our leaders in order for us to achieve our objectives”.
