Residents of Umuguma, Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo State, have taken to the streets of Owerri, protesting deplorable state of their roads.
The protest which took place on Tuesday at the area saw young and old people carrying placards with inscriptions as they demanded for quick rehabilitation of their road by Imo State government.

The leader of the protesters who did not want his name in print for security reasons, said over the years residents of Umuguma have been subjected to excruciating suffering due to bad state of their roads, regretting that despite that the community is the headquarters of Owerri West Local Government Council, their roads have been deplorable.

The people who noted that the area houses Imo Housing Estate, World Bank Estate, Federal Housing Estate, Nigeria Police Force, Civil Defense, Imo Education Board among others through which government generates huge revenue, condemned government neglect on the plight of the people.
They appealed to government to do the needful so that commercial activities, peace, comfort and free movement at the area will be enhanced, saying no business or economy can thrive in a deplorable or hostile environment.

“We are lacking government attention here at Umuguma. No roads, no empowerment opportunities, no standard school, no functional and affordable hospital, no job, no nothing only police check points. A pregnant woman delivered inside a car while going to the hospital because of bad road.
“Who did we offend? Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State, what is our hope. No road”, parts of their placards read.
