Some sets of friends under the aegis of Ebuka and Friends have embarked on operation “Feed the Street Project”, to support in a little way the vulnerable adults and less privileged children in the street.
The event which took place on Friday at the popular MCC bridge along Onitsha Enugu expressway Onitsha, saw no fewer than one hundred and fifty persons fed with delicious meals, drinks and give away gifts in cash.
The leader of the group, Okoye Emmanuel Chukwuebuka, describing his intentions said “I have always have the desire to help the needy and the less privileged right from when I was little, so growing up, I realized that I maybe not able to reach out to all in the street but reaching out to a small number of people is already accounted as a great work”.
“I and my team have been feeding the street for four years now and usually it’s been on February 14th, but this year a number of friends reached out and said they wanted to feed the street that was why we had to undertake the project again owing despite the high cost of living”.
Also speaking Ihennacho Adachukwu Sophia, a 400L student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and a participant of the La’bukas and Friends Street Outreach expressing happiness said “I have been part of the team for close to four years now and the Street Outreach is always the most anticipated time of my life, this one went so well and we were able to reach out to a good number of persons”.
The La’bukas Team outreach is something I am happy to be part of and I pray the team achieves goodwill to be able to reach out to more persons as much as we can.
Adding, Chidozie Okoye, admonished that his participation in the project had given him another opportunity to cater for the needy. “I’ve actually had it in mind to be part of this movement since last year. So when he told me about this, I was so excited and of course had to shift all my schedule for that day just to be part of that movement. To be sincere with you, I felt fulfilled when I came back from this movement. I’m so happy about this and by God’s grace we will be doing something like this again next month”.
Furthermore, Miss Ike Mary noted that the project was to help those children on the street who cannot afford three square meals. “These are children living with poor parents under bridges, or shanties who are unable to give them befitting education or can no longer be fed by their parents”, she concluded. She said: “The menace caused by street children cannot be overemphasized and the neglect on them poses a threat to the society. They end up getting involved in criminal activities, like war-mongering, sex trade, child slavery, terrorism and robbery. “Children are the future of every country; we must show them love so that they will become better persons in the society tomorrow.”
