The Majority Leader, Imo State House Assembly, Hon. Dele Onyemaechi Kanayo, who represents Owerri West state constituency, has said that former governor, Rochas Okorocha raped the economy of Imo.
Onyemaechi, who spoke during a meeting convened by Owerri Zone Leaders of thought, held at Rockview Hotel, Owerri, on Saturday, described Okorocha as a greedy leader whom he said doctored documents to swindle the state finance, assets and properties, saying he did not consult the House of Assembly in any decision he took especially the ones bothering on public assets and finance.
He assured the people that Imo Assembly is supporting the move by the executive to recover stolen property from Okorocha and associates and return them to original owners in line with recommendations of Duruoha Igwe led Judiciary Panel of Inquiry set up by Emeka Ihedioha regime and sustained by Hope Uzodimma led government.
However, Commissioner of Lands, Survey and Physical Planning, Barr. Enyinna Onuegbu, Speakers-emeritus, Imo Assembly, Rt. Hon. Godfrey Dikeocha and Kelechi Nwagwu, said that Owerri Zone affirmed the decision earlier taken by the stakeholders of the state who told Uzodimma not to leave any stone unturned in recovering alleged stolen public and individual properties from Okorocha.
“We support every policy of Governor Hope Uzodimma particularly the full implementation of the Whitepaper on Lands to recover our common patrimony more so when the land in the state capital is Owerri land acquired by the past state government.
“To sustain the positive participation of Nde Owerri in the progress of Imo State, we also resolve to ensure that the unity, peace and progress of Imo State shall at all times be facilitated, protected and defended”, they posited.
Speaking, Imo State deputy governor, Prof. Placid Njoku, expressed delight for the support Owerri Zone has declared for the government, assuring them that the Whitepaper resolution on assets recovery would be implemented to the letter.
