Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma has signed into law the Bill to establish the Imo state security organization, aimed at assisting in the maintenance of law and order, as well as protection of lives and property of citizens of the state.
The Governor also assented to another Bill for a law to establish state Geographical information services for regulating land administration and related matters.
Assenting to the two Bills passed into law by the Legislature on Tuesday, Governor Uzodimma noted the enactment of both executive Bills into law was timely, particularly the first Bill that had the overall objective of providing support and assistance to Security Agencies in maintenance of law and order, protection of lives and property, prevention of unauthorized possession of firearms and intelligence gathering to assist relevant security outfits in fighting crime.
He pointed out that in the face of numerous complaints and petitions that inundated the panel of inquiry on land and related matters and the consequent implementation of recommendations made in the gazetted white paper the second Bill signed into law will help ascertain proof of ownership of land, eliminate illegal land acquisition and grabbing, provision a robust framework for the regulating of land administration, among others.
Furthermore, Uzodimma warned that with the passage of the law for regulating land administration and related matters in the state, those who fraudulently acquire land in Imo state should expect to face the wrath of the law.
The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Paul Emeziem said the passing of both Bills into law would accelerate and consolidate the process of good governance, ensuring justice and equity in land administration, as well as strengthen the security apparatus of the state government to the benefit of Imo citizens.
