Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Imo State chapter, Hon. Sam Udeh has denied misappropriation of finances of the union as alleged in the media by those he described as enemies of the union.
Udeh made the denial on Tuesday at the State Secretariat of NURTW Owerri while reacting to the allegation leveled against him. He assured that the union under his watch will be seen as a reputable union of men with integrity.
He said he is prepared to render selfless service to the union to advance it, saying as a “core unionist who knows the plight of motorists and commuters, I cannot afford to disappoint the unionists, Imo people, especially the Governor who found me worthy to lead the union”.
The NURTW boss described the sponsors of the said publication as “enemies of the union and joy-killers who do not want the unity of the union”, challenging his blackmailers who claim to be stakeholders of the union to come up with tangible evidence of extortion against him.
“The people you are seeing at the union headquarters are the original stakeholders and leaders of Imo NURTW. Any other group of persons parading themselves as stakeholders is fake and faceless individuals. Nobody is extorting us and we are not extorting anybody. But we are cordial, and in a mutual relationship with the state government”, he reiterated
Udeh, who told the union members and Imo people in general to ignore the blackmail against him, promised to add to the success of the Shared Prosperity administration championed by Governor Hope Uzodinma, vowing that the union under his watch will continue to support government in all spheres to move the state forward.
“As road unionists operating in Imo State, we must always think of the good of our great State. We must as well embrace and support the government of the day, adding that Governor Uzodinma has done well on infrastructural development. Owerri is wearing new look. For example, the roundabouts in Owerri metropolis are well decorated with free traffic lights”.
“I am willing and ready to partner with the media in Imo to ensure unity, development and progress of the union. I am advising you to be objective in your job”, mentioning that the union is ready to establish mobile courts to check traffic law defaulters as well as bring them to book.
