The Imo State House of Assembly has passed a motion to stop the delivery and sales of adulterated kerosene and other petroleum products in Imo State.

The member representing Ideato North State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Barr. Arthur Egwim, in a House of Assembly Motion 201, urged members to resolve to invite relevant stakeholders such as the Commandant of NSCDC, the Chairman of DPRS, the Imo State Chairman of IPMAN and Chairman of CPC, Imo State, to explain the reason for the flood of adulterated Kerosene all over State.

The member whose motion was supported by Hon. Johnson Duru of Ideato South, said that many of his constituents have fallen victims of adulterated Kerosene.

He therefore called for government intervention. Barr. Egwim noted that most victims are poor, hence they cannot afford cooking gas and may also not afford medical care when burnt by the adulterated product.

The motion received robust deliberations from members, such as Hon. Eddy Obinna from Abo Mbaise, Hon. Johnson Duru, representing Ideato South and Kanayo Onyemaechi, Majority Leader and member representing Owerri West State Constituency. They all condemned the menace of adulterated Kerosene.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh, explained that the matter of adulterated products affects the lives of Imo people and that it is being discussed in a manner that does not contravenes the constitution of the Federal Republic. The Speaker therefore ordered that the concerned stakeholders be invited to the House for interface.
