Commercial bus drivers of Imo State have requested government to extend its painting policy of commercial bus drivers to 2022 to enable them comply effectively.
The commercial bus drivers who spoke to our reporter in Owerri on Monday through Ukah Ahumihe pleaded with government to consider them to enable full compliance.
Ahumihe maintained that “we are making a plea to government to extend its painting policy for security reason and revenue generation next year. At least, from middle of January, 2022. By this, we would have fully complied financially. Life is hard for many of us.
“In ten years, government had subjected us to suffering through some of its obnoxious policies on commercial bus drivers of Imo State especially those who ply Orlu, Okigwe and Owerri suburbs. “Government should be able to handle commercial bus drivers with care and dignity. Government should use our finances for our own good. It should not cause us much money to meet these needs. Or are we no longer citizens of Imo State, he asked.
They called on government to reduce the amount for the painting of vehicles as well as reduce price of petroleum products, gas, kerosene and diesel, inflation and reconstruct roads and bridges.
One of the leaders of commercial bus/taxi drivers association of Imo State who does not want his name in print, confided that “the biometric data capturing is for security reason. This is for security, no compromise”.
