A bill seeking the prohibition of open rearing and grazing of livestock and ranching administration has scaled through second reading at the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Speaking during the debate, the leader of the house, Martins Amaewhule said that the bill is set to protect the rights of citizens which include farmers, herders, pedestrians and motorists in the state.
On his part, the member representing Obio Akpor Constituency two, Michael Chinda argued that section five L which creates room for pathways for livestocks can’t be applicable in his constituency due to his argument that it is an urban area.
Chinda added that the maximum and average sizes of land allocated for ranching should be stated in the bill to avoid victimization of land owners in communities.
The speaker of the house, Ikuiyi Awaji Ibani said that the bill will be subjected to public hearing and will be handled by the committees on environment and Agriculture.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly has subjected two bills to the committee of the whole for clause by clause deliberation.
The bills are the amendment of the Rivers State Child Right law 2020 and the renaming of Produce house, Water Lines House, Old Aba Road, Liberation Stadium, Elelenwo road and Judges Quarters bill 2021.
