62 communities, 17 vulnerable groups benefit from Anambra projects – ANCSDA

62 communities, 17 vulnerable groups benefit from Anambra projects – ANCSDA

The Chairman, Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency (ANCSDA) has said that sixty two poor communities as well as seventeen vulnerable groups have benefitted from the one billion four hundred million naira community projects in Anambra state.

The strategic approach which is demand and community driven development approach has its focus centered on Education, Health, Water, Transportation and Electricity.
Igwe Obedo disclosed this during the public presentation of Anambra State Community and Social Development Project – Additional Financing (ANCSDP-AF) achievements held at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka on Tuesday.


Speaking during the opening remark, Chairman Board of directors Anambra Sate Community and Social Development Agency, HRH Igwe Rowland Odegbo, said Anambra state government through its agency has achieved the project Development Objective (PDO) despite the limited period for the implementation of the project.

According Igwe Odegbo, in the state official poverty map, the project intervened with focus on the poorest of the poor in twelve local governments namely, Ayamelum, Anambra West, Anambra East, Ogbaru, Awka North, Orumba North & South, Dunukofia, Ihiala, Oyi, Idemili north and Anaocha with support on sixty two poor communities, seventeen vulnerable groups with over one billion four hundred million naira only to implement and complete two hundred and fifty projects as at 30th September 2020.

Also speaking, the Commissioner, Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget and Development, Hon. Mark Okoye noted that the Anambra state development project has promoted participatory approaches to governance as part of the policy thrust and paradigm shift championed by governor Willie Obiano’s administration.

According to the Commissioner, the paradigm shift has resulted in the “Community Choose your Project Initiative”, which has invested over seven billion two hundred million naira for development projects within the 21 local government areas.
Highlights of the event were the presentation of the community based projects implementation performance across the 21 local government areas and the award to deserving communities like Ugbene, Oromu etiti, Obinwanne Ufuma, Oganiru women group, among others for the best speed and accuracy in community based projects.
