To avert impending famine in South East, an elder statesman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has called for a revolution on agriculture and an overhaul on infrastructure such as electricity, road, hospital (healthcare), market including provision of quality and affordable education, commerce and industry.
Iwuanyanwu advised government to take proactive steps to stop the economy from going into extinction, stressing that if nothing is drastically, positively done, there may be famine across the country by 2026, frowning that over dependence on crude oil and lack of working infrastructure are the major reasons for economic crunch and extreme poverty bedeviling the people.
He made this call while receiving an Achievement Award from Nigeria Association of Economists, Imo State branch, held last week, in Owerri, through the National Coordinator, Iwuanyanwu Foundation, Prince Chinedu Nsofor, who represented him, reiterating that “federal government has the responsibility to encourage agriculture by way of providing lands, equipping farmers and building solid infrastructure that can ginger youths to engage in productive ventures, charging technocrats, economists, professionals to continue to explore positive ways to join hands with government and other relevant bodies to strengthen the economy to improve living conditions and avert impending famine or danger.
“The Nigeria Association of Economists should continue to play vital role by lobbying key national assembly members, judiciary, ministries and other relevant agencies to buy into their vision to help save and strengthen the country’s economy to move forward”. He thanked the association for the honor and homage as he vowed to continue to support government and other relevant agencies to stabilize the economy of Nigeria and strengthen good leadership, democracy, rule of law, peace, comfort and security.
