The Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture Awka, through the National Coconut producers, processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria NACOPPMAN have taken delivery of twenty thousand coconut seedlings from Malaysia for cultivation.
Dr Foster Ihejiofor, Anambra Commissioner for Agriculture after inspecting the seedlings, reassured ndi Anambra that Soludo’s administration shall work hard to ensure food sufficiency, surplus for export, improve, stabilize the economy and create wealth through agriculture.
He added that planting of economic trees such as coconut and palm is the major drive and revealed that more seedlings will arrive and massive planting of economic trees in the state are underway.
The Hon Commissioner called on ndi Anambra to take advantage of the opportunity Soludo’s administration has created in agricultural sector to improve standard of living and contribute to the growth and development of the State.
Recall that Governor Soludo had earlier announced that the state will plant hundreds of thousands of coconut and palm seedlings this year.
Admonishing the importation as a positive development, Chairman, Youth Wing, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Anambra state Chapter, Mr Chisom Onugha also informed our Correspondent that coconut is a vital fruit which has alot of benefits, ranging from the economic value, health, employment creation among others.
He however, urged the state government to provide structural plan which is strategic enough to effect the implementation of cultivating and harvesting the fruits for income generation.
