It was moment of jubilation as the governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu presented Staff of Office to the Eze-Elect of Obiukom, Ututu Autonomous community in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, HRH, Eze, Hon. Mandela Arunsi Okereke.
Speaking to newsmen, the Eze-Elect, Okereke noted that the journey of being elected the traditional ruler started after the late traditional ruler, HRH, Eze Okoro Kalu Ogbonnaya died few years ago. He noted that in a keenly and fairly contested election, he emerged the Eze-Elect with total number of 117 votes. Okereke hinted that on the 17th June, 2021 they were given Staff of Office by the governor, Dr. Okezie ikpeaze having being presented to the local government by the town union leaders and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for documentation, adding that the presentation of Staff of Office would have been done last year but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the process.
The visionary Eze-Elect, Okereke posited that having been elected massively by his people, he will ensure even development, completion of projects, especially the hall project. He also hinted that he will liaise with relevant stakeholders to fix the roads leading to the community, provide street lights, scholarship, youth empowerment and skills acquisition for members of the community.
The traditional ruler, Eze Okereke lauded the governor Ikpeazu for his leadership style especially projecting made-in Aba goods, empowering the youths, extending appointments to his community. He urged the governor not to relent in sustaining the tempo.
In terms of the security challenges in southeast, the traditional ruler hinted that the governors should liaise with the traditional rulers for community security adding that once the communities are secured, the states are secured. He urged the governors to support the vigilante groups to enable them function optimally. He called on stakeholders in his community to join hands together to build the area.
