Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra state has assured that suspects under the command will be given their full fundamental human rights.

Public Relations Officer, state Commandant NSCDC Anambra, DSC Okadigbo Edwin in a statement made avaliable to journalist said the Comdt. Obiyo made this declaration on Thursday, June 2, 2022 when he played host to members of National Human Rights Commission who were at the State Command Headquarters Awka for an audit of the Commands’ detention facilities.

According to him, “The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Mr. Everestus C. Obiyo JP has pledged to ensure that suspects in the Corps custody are accorded their fundamental human rights”.

He stated that the Corps would continue to observe the sanctity of suspects at all times, promising to collaborate with the Commission towards minimizing cases of human rights abuses.

Earlier the State Coordinator of National Human Rights Commission, Anambra State, Mrs Ugwuanyi Nkechi informed the State Commandant that the commission embarked on the visit to inspect detention facilities pursuant to Section 6(d) of the National Human Rights Commission Amendment Act (2010) in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
She commended the Corps on the protection of human rights and urged them never to relent.

The delegation were thereafter conducted round the Command’s detention facilities.
