The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Chinedum Orji has told Abians to remain calm and not panic because of the increased number of security men in the House Complex.
The Speaker stated this in a press release he made available to newsmen on Tuesday which was signed by his Chief Press Secretary, (CPS) Jude Ndukwe.
The Speaker who also requested security agencies in the State to warn political actors working to destabilize the State House of Assembly to desist from such acts, advised the political actors to toe the path of peace so that the current administration ends in peace.
He explained why members of the State legislature are not sitting, saying that there is no pending Appropriation Bill from the Executive arm of Abia State government which is still pending before the House.
“Contrary to the insinuation in some quarters , the non-sitting of Members for now has nothing to do with any requests from the Executive as such requests are usually channeled as Appropriation Bill and as of today, there is no requests for approval of any Appropriation by the Executive that is pending before the House.
“The House has since passed both requests last December”, the statement read. The Chief Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr Jude Ndukwe who further spoke to News Echo on the matter, confirmed the heavy presence of security men in front of the Assembly Gate.
It was not known if suspended members of the House made any attempt to storm the Assembly to warrant the deployment of the security men or not.
It would be recalled that some members of Abia State House of Assembly, including the Deputy Speaker, Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu , Obinna Ichita, Okey Igwe, Chikwendu Kalu, Chikwudi Apugo etc , were recently suspended by the House for allegedly participating in the failed impeachment exercise against the Speaker, Hon Chinedum Orji.
