Sound spiritual standing will help Nigerian army in performance – Army Secretary

The Chief of Army Staff, General Faruk Yahaya has posited that sound spiritual standing will help troops of the Nigerian Army in performing their duties effectively

Yahaya made this assertion through Major General J.H Abdusalam, the Military Secretary, Army who represented him at the Nigerian Army Day Celebration J’umaat prayers held at the Brigade’s Central Mosque.

He said the Army Day Celebration is a yearly celebration that has been on for 159one hundred and fifty of the existence of the Nigerian Army.

According to Abdusalam, the Chief of Army Staff has continued to improve on infrastructures, in terms of religious places of worship like Mosques, Churches all over their barracks, to improve the spiritual wellbeing of troops, which will also help them in performing their duties creditably.

He said the J’umaat prayer was aimed at lifting the Nigerian Army to God in prayer in the Muslim way, as there will also be prayers in the Christian way on Sunday.

“We pray for the unity of the nation, for our troops in various theatres, we pray for their safety and for them to achieve the purpose that took them wherever they were posted.”

The army secretary said the Chief of Army Staff has put in a lot of effort to promote and enhance the welfare of the Nigeria Army personnel since he assumed office.

“In terms of their salaries, allowances, everything that has to do with the welfare of the personnel has been his topmost priority.”

Speaking during the unveiling, the Chief of Army Staff, represented by Major General Victor Ezegwu, said anything that improves the physical wellbeing of officers and soldiers is his topmost priority and identified golf as one of them.

He appreciated the golf club for naming one of their holes in his honour and promised to offer his assistance for its continuous smooth running.

Earlier in the address of the club members, read by their captain, Rtd. Commodore O.E Osuagwu traced the history of the club which dates back to 2008 when it was commissioned by Late Rtd. Lt. Gen. Luka Yusuf, describing it as the best and playable golf course in the South East of Nigeria.

They said their current golf house was being built by the contribution of members of the club, with major contribution from their Board of Trustee members and requested the assistance of the Chief of Staff towards its completion.

The club members also requested the COAS to assist them with the provision of 300KVA transformer for electricity within and around the golf course and an annual subvention for the golf club from his office.

“The golf course is a very good recreational facility for officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army. It has played enormous role in promoting and maintaining the civil military relationship”.

While thanking the COAS for accepting the hole they offered him, they requested that the hole be maintained with an annual subscription of N200, 000
