A statement by Cajetan Duke, ther Publicity Secretary of the Imo APC on Sunday reads, “The All Progressives Congress, APC, Imo State Chapter, has received with mix feelings the emerging revelations from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), following the recent massive resignation of majority of the members of the State Working Committee of the party In a dramatic turn of events, no fewer than seven (7) principal officers of the party resigned their respective positions in one fell swoop.
They include: the State Deputy Chairman, State Secretary, State Youth Leader, the Publicity Secretary, Woman and Treasurer. Who else is standing? The affected officials gave recurring threat to their lives as one of the major reasons for their action. In a press statement, the defectors said: “Last Saturday, armed thugs sponsored by Senator Anyanwu invaded the Party Secretariat and unleashed violence on us. They vandalized our building, smashed all the glasses, beat our security men to a pulp, broke into our offices, and looted everything they could find.
This latest attack was the most brazen and audacious attempt to eliminate us. It is curious that the so-called function which Senator Anyanwu claimed to have brought him and his thugs to the party secretariat was totally unknown to us as SWC members.” “In view of the forgoing and many other shocking discoveries, which will soon be made public, we, the undersigned members of the Imo State Working Committee of the PDP, have resolved to resign our various positions and dump the party en masse.”
While we as a party profoundly sympathize with the concerned individuals for the vicious threat to their lives, we equally congratulate them individually and collectively for speaking out, albiet too late. However, we are not surprised with the emerging revelations – it is nothing but a confessional statement, from an estranged accomplice.
It is indeed unfortunate and unpleasantly frightening that the PDP has metamorphosed into a breeding ground for violent crime, threat to democracy, peace and stability in our dear state.
As a responsible and responsive political party, the APC, Imo Chapter remains consistent and firm in our support for the position of government and relevant security agencies in the state, which is that insecurity in Imo is politically contrived. It is now a matter of public knowledge that the PDP, deliberately declared war on our people as a political strategy to acquire power.
It is equally disheartening that critical stakeholders of the PDP in their desperation for Douglas House, employed violence, intimidation, harassment and manipulation to bring our people to political submission.
As we look forward to more revelations in the days ahead, we urge Imolites to remain vigilant as ever and be wary of sponsors of banditry, insecurity and unwarranted killings of innocent citizens, who are masquerading with a mischievous, fake and deceptive promise to make Imo safe! Indeed, they are blood – thirsty and nothing good will ever come from them.
