In my two articles, I have discussed two important items in relation to practicing politics in Nigeria These were: what is Politics and who is a Politician? The objective of this series of analysis is to contribute meaningfully towards better political process in our country.

Because according to Walter Raleigh a renowned scholar, “education and knowledge when obtained and possessed should be share among the populace
As a political scientist I am sharing mine to the benefit of mankind.
In today’s analysis, I am discussing another critical item in the process of functional politics which I believe will help many aspirants.

There are many reasons why many people fail elections. (a) Indecision (b) Lack of knowledge (c) Ignorance of rules and regulations of a particular elections (d) Inadequate preparation (e) The recruitment of wrong personnel and (f) Lack of adequate finance

In today’s analysis, I will discuss this beginning with indecision and other in subsequent analyses.
A decision to contest elections beginning with councillorship is not a child’s play. It is not an easy decision. It is not a decision that will be taken in a hurry.

A decision to contest election must be taken carefully and with deep reflections. These reflections will include certain questions one must ask himself or herself. Such as, do I have physical and mental fitness to undertake such an exercise? Do I have the capacity to ensure that I can mobilise those who can share my aspirations? Furthermore do I have full knowledge of the constituency I want to represent?(ward, LGA, State or any type of constituency).

Besides, do I have a full knowledge of the social, political, economic and educational details of the constituency? Over and above do I have the financial capacity or ability to attract financial support from friends and well wishers? In fact, nobody can finance election by himself or herself alone, therefore part of decision making process would include the assurance that one has the capacity to attract sponsorship and other financial supports from friends, well wishers, and other corporate organizations.

In conclusion, decision to contest election must be based on in-depth research for one to convince oneself that he has a “big head and wide shoulder”, to carry this enormous responsibility and an undertaking.
(To be continued in the next edition).

In conclusion, decision to contest election must be based on in-depth research for one to convince oneself that he has a “big head and wide shoulder”, to carry this enormous responsibility and an undertaking.
