Imo first lady empowers 3000 women

The wife of Imo State Governor, Barr. Mrs Chioma Uzodimma has kicked off the empowerment of 3000 indigent women of the state, as part of the 2020 Imo Women August meeting. This is her maiden outing as the First Lady of the state since assumption of office.

The empowerment is also in continuation of her efforts to alleviate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on women and their families.

The Governor’s wife who was represented by the Commissioner for Gender and vulnerable group, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, disclosed this at Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala federal constituency August meeting held at Aboh Mbaise secondary school field, Aboh Mbaise local government area and that is Ikeduru/Mbaitolu held at St. Mary’s Cath. Church field, Ubommiri in Mbaitolu respectively. She assured that the welfare of women in the state has been prioritized by her office as policies and enactment of laws that protect their rights and wellbeing would be at the forefront of governments programs.

She said two hundred and fifty women from twelve federal constituencies would be empowered financially in this maiden outing which has been drastically scaled down due to the Corona Virus pandemic.

In her remarks, the wife of the deputy governor, Dr. Mrss Bold Njoku, noted that the present administration has come to being changes and correct the wrongs of the past, and urged the beneficiaries of the empowerments to use the money to improve the quality of their lives.

Beneficiaries of the empowerment from Ibeku community Mrs Njoku Apollonia who expressed this joy thanked the governor’s wife for the assistance.

Dignitaries present at the occasion included the IMC Chairman of the Local Government areas, some appointees from the areas and traditional rulers and their wives among others.
