A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Sam Onuigbo has rejected the popular belief among Nigerians that the federal legislators are under firm control of President Mohamadu Buhari.

Rather, he appealed to constituents to understand the roles the National Assembly had been playing in ensuring the stability of the nation.

The Ikwuano/ Umuahia North/Umuahia South representative said this in Umuahia while presenting his score cards to journalists.

He expressed displeasure over the negative tags hung on the necks of members of the House of Representatives and Senators, declaring that “our jobs are lawmaking, oversight and representation. It is wrong to see us only as operating under the control of the executive arm”, and assured that he would continue on his mandate of improving the welfare of his constituents.

He listed his achievements in the past six years to include the award of contract for Umuahia-Ikwuano-Ikot Ekpene federal road, women and youth employment, building of community health centres, award of scholarship, reconstruction of schools, intervention in bloody boundary clash between communities in Ikwuano and those in Akwa Ibom State.

The House member equally cited the signing of climate change bill which he sponsored into law by President Mohammadu Buhari as his imprint in the National Assembly.

He regretted the death of two students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike on the failed portions of Umuahia/Ikwuano Ikot Ekpene road in 2021, assuring that contractors have been mobilised by the federal government to the road, with funds from Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC).

The Chairman, House of Reps committee on climate change promised to attract more development to his people and called for more support from them.

Onuigbo lamented that some individuals are laying claims to some projects he has attracted to his constituency, advising such persons to refrain from such and appreciated the role of Journalists in the development of the nation.
