Imo State government has reiterated that the wearing of face masks and the observance of COVI-19 protocols are still in force.
The government directed security officials to arrest and prosecute defaulters of the executive order on wearing of face masks in public places and other COVID-19 safety measures.
Commissioner for information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen after the state executive council meeting on Wednesday reminded the residents of the state that the executive order that made wearing of face masks compulsory was still in force, stressing that relevant security agencies have been detailed to enforce the laws.
He noted that COVID-19 was at resurgent stage and Imo State Government does not want its citizens to be cought napping, even as he said council noted that war against the pandemic was progressing and the community testing was in progress and that the reports indicate that the rate of infection was still very low, but does not mean the state should rest on its oars, hence the emphasis on wearing of face masks.
He disclosed other key deliberations of the executive council included discussion on the resumption of state tertiary institutions and setting machinery in motion to ensure that tertiary institutions in the state resume academic activities as soon as possible, especially for examination classes.
He said the council took notice of the fact that Imo now has another federal technical college, courtesy of the presidency which is as a result of diligent investment of the governor’s goodwill.
The commissioner said council also noted with delight the completion of residential quarters for the state commissioner of Police by the state government and commissioned by the Inspector General of Police during his recent visit to the state, while the former residential quarters of the commissioner, being an Imo State property has been handed over to Imo State Waste Management Agency as its office complex.
