Families of ten Police officers in Abia State who died in active service have been presented with a cheque of N21, 477,050.80k by the Nigerian Police Force.
The money was presented to the next of kin of the dead officers by the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbede in Umuahia, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.
Performing the presentation at Abia State Police Command’s headquarters at Bende road, Umuahia, Abia State Police Commissioner, Janet Agbede, represented by ACP Jane Mbanefo, advised the benefitting families not to misuse the money.
She explained that the money is part of the ongoing Group Life Insurance Welfare scheme of IGP Usman Alkali Baba for families of late Police officers for 2020/2021 policy year.
IGP in his message to the families of the late officers said the money would go a long way in alleviating the pains and sufferings of deceased officers’ families, adding that officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force would continue to discharge their duties of securing the nation.
One of the next of kin who spoke on behalf of others, Justice E. John thanked the IG for the insurance welfare package, pointing out that the initiative showed that the sacrifices of the late officers were recognized even in death.
John assured that the money given to them would not be wasted on jamboree but would be utilized.
It was an emotional event as tears cascaded the faces of two of the next of kin, on the realisation that their bread winners were gone forever.
