The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has solicited the assistance of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) towards enforcing its membership regulations.

Addressing leadership of the association who called on him in his office, the NSCDC commanding officer for Imo State, ACG Raji Ibrahim Adedoyin promised that the command will in line with its mandate of law enforcement, accord them all the necessary assistants they require.

Ibrahim who was recently elevated to the rank of Assistant Commandant General (ACG), however pointed out that though a trade union, the association should be tactical in its approach to enforcement of membership regulations. He suggested that it should be better to use persuasion which entails, inviting and persuading musicians in the state to join the association, than arresting and impounding their musical equipment which will not be the best civil approach.

While extolling the importance of music, the commandant urged the musicians to use their music to impact positive values on the young ones. He said by their talents, musicians have same influence like pastors because people listens and emulate them.

Based on the above, he stressed the need for them to always organize seminars and sensitization workshop to impact positive morals on their members and redirect erring ones.

Earlier in his address, the Governor of PMAN, Imo State chapter, Comrade Bismarck Ekeocha informed the commandant that the association, which is undergoing reformation, has set up a taskforce to enforce membership regulations and needs the assistance of the NSCDC and other security agents.

He informed him and other senior NSCDC officials that PMAN is a trade union association which is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and has the mandate to regulate the practice and conduct of musicians in the country.

Ekeocha made it clear that the association has the authorization to bar any musician who fails to register with it from performing as a musician. He added that the association encompasses all genre of music; highlife, bongo, juju, Fuji, traditional, vocalists, instrumentalists and makes it mandatory for them to register with it.
