As a way of encouraging christians during this period of lent, the City Boys Movement, Anambra state chapter, have distributed Palliatives to over five hundred persons in Awka.
The event held on Saturday 7th March 2026 at the SEMA office, fire service, Awka, had indigents persons, children from sickle cell home, less privileged drawn from the twenty one local government area of the state.
Speaking shortly after the distribution, the Anambra Director, Sir Nonso Ozoemena (Ugebe Anam) said the essence of the sharing was to bring support to our Christian brothers and sisters during this lenten season. “This is not actually an empowerment, it is a response to the challenges faced by our brothers and sisters that are fasting during this Lenten season. If u visit the north you will see city dwellers supporting our Muslim brothers to break their fast. our States has Christian brothers, father’s and sisters on that note our grand patron led by Mr Sheyi Tinibu has instructed that this initiative should reach every vision and states in the country we are here to share some food park that the poor can’t afford”.
“We are not here for politics or campaigning as said this is about supporting those who can’t afford certain things during this period.”
Also speaking, Head, South East and Director of Finance for the City Boy Movement in the South East, Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba disclosed that “we’re coordinating efforts in Anambra to extend support to both the Christian and Islamic communities. At this point, both communities are observing their respective periods, and we’ve tried to extend support to those at the grassroots”.
“This initiative isn’t about politics or empowerment, nor is it about canvassing for votes, elections are still next year. The City Boy Movement, a support group for Mr President’s re-election, has decided to extend support to those at the lower end of the economic spectrum during this period. We’re providing food items that can last a family for two or three days”.
Amb Elijah maintained that the most important thing is the intent behind the city boys’s actions. “It’s not to canvass for votes. By the way, electoral law requires campaigning to start from October or December this year. As a support group, we’re doing this to support those struggling at the base of the pyramid during their observance period”.
“We envision the City Boy Movement as a pressure group that can produce governors, presidents, ministers, and directors of agencies in Nigeria. We’re doing this on a large scale and will continue to move across the South East, sharing government policies with the people and engaging them in the process.”
He noted that the initiative does coincide with the inauguration of local government coordinators and Anambra state officers of the City Boy Movement.
Also speaking, National Communications Director for Southeast Region, City Boys Movement, Dr Ngozi Okafor said the event serves a dual purpose. “Firstly, we inaugurated an expo to establish a structured framework for the City Boy Movement in Anambra. We have learned from past experiences that a well-organized structure, spanning from national to grassroots levels, is crucial for equitable benefits. This marked the first phase of our event”.
“The second phase involved distributing items to the beneficiaries. In the past, there were instances where people didn’t receive promised items, so we ensured transparency by conducting the distribution openly in this field. Our grand patron and patron have made it possible for us to support widows and young people. I’m pleased to have tangible evidence of this initiative”.
Dr Okafor emphaised that both Muslim and Christian communities, were provided with palliatives for both Ramadan and the Christian season. To our Christian beneficiaries, I hope your prayers are answered, and God grants your heart’s desires.
Meanwhile, Esther Okoye, Melford Obi and Mrs Nkiru omenuko expressed happiness over the Palliatives recieved why praying for the success of the organisers.
Some of the dignitaries present were Director General on Security, Sam Onwuteaka, Chief Uche Nworah, APC stalwarts among others.
