The Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Umuahia, Bishop Geoffrey Ibeabuchi has renewed his call for the retirement of Nigeria’s security service chiefs, saying that the country has continued to look like a killing field under the watch of the military chiefs.
Ibeabuchi made the call yesterday at St. Stephen’s Catheral conference centre in Umuahia during a media parley he held with members of Nigerian Union of Journalists, Abia State Council .
He regretted the killing of farmers in Borno State and other parts of the country, pointing out that security situation in Nigeria has not improved.
” The security chiefs are not doing well and should be removed.
If you give someone a job and he fails to do the work well, the best thing to do is remove him or redeploy him to another place.”, the bishop said.
The clergyman described the security situation of Nigeria as embarrassing and worrisome while urging Nigerians not to lose hope in God.
He also called on Nigerians to make a good choice during 2023 elections and beyond to avoid electing those who are not prepared to lead the people, adding that it was dangerous to elect people into offices based on sentiment.
Bishop Ibeabuchi commended the men of the fourth estate of the realm for their efforts in reporting events in the state, especially the activities of the Anglican Church, while praying for God’s protection upon journalists in the discharge of their duties.
He urged journalists to remain objective and fair in their reportage, pointing out that a good society is enhanced when the truth is told .
In his remarks, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abia State Council, Comrade John Emejor recalled how military officers invaded the press centre some years ago, revealing that Anglican Church donated a huge sum of money to the council which helped in replacing some of destroyed equipment of the council.
He also promised that under his watch, journalists would continue to partner the church towards ensuring a better society.
