Imo people have been advised to actively embrace farming in order to cushion the biting effect of poverty and hunger.
State chapter Chairman of Oil Palm Growers Association of Nigeria (OPGAN), Hon Jobson E. William, gave the advice during the flag-off campaign to sensitize palm growers on available loan scheme from the Central Bank of Nigeria for farmers, held at the Real Hotel, Owerri.
Jobson maintained that the association has made positive progress; hence he “Called on Imo people to wake up from slumber and go back to the drawing board by embracing agriculture with a view to eradicating poverty and hunger”.
Jobson noted that the essence of the gathering was to get the data of farmers in Imo State, adding that since the existence of OPGAN it has not had such a gathering, assuring that the association was going to circulate to the twenty seven local government areas of Imo State with the intent to encourage farmers to engage fully in farming.
He stressed that the CBN loan was real and when gotten will help members to richly grow in farming since the association was concerned about growers of agriculture, mentioning that OPGAN is made up of 3 sectors: the processors, the marketers among others which will join hands to make sure it gets to the grassroots.
