The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has denied an allegation by the Imo APC led administration that it sponsored protesters from the 27 LGAs of the state to Abuja to protest against the insecurity situation of the state.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri , the state publicity secretary of the party Collins Opuruzor stated that the allegation levelled against the party by the state Commissioner for information, Declan Emulumba is false and baseless.
According to the party’s spokesman, the APC led administration, raising alarm over the protest is a proof that they are not been truthful about the insecurity challenges being experienced in the state.
He maintained that staging a protest is not against the law and expressed dismay why it should be an issue to the state government.
He however disclosed that an international Human Right organization in disclosed in Anambra state that the level of insecurity and the number of persons killed in Imo as a result of Insecurity is worrisome hence the need to seek for ways of tackling the situation. He stated that such report gave rise to the protest but maintained that Imo People Democratic party is not behind such protest.
According to the publicity secretary, Imo has recorded hundreds of deaths, thousands of displaced persons, cases of kidnapped and missing persons within the past few years hence the need for urgent action to restore the state from insecurity.
