A Four-storey building of Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) has been completed and commissioned by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for use.
The building, which houses Abia State scholarship board, also serves as the headquarters of Abia State centre for continuing education.
The project was started by administration of Chief Theodore Orji, former Governor of the State.
Commissioning the building for use, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu said the efforts made by his government in completing the project underscored the administration’s commitment to giving Abia children the deserved quality education.
He noted that on assumption of office in 2015, he ensured that backlog of unpaid counterpart funds owed by the previous administrations were paid, to put ASUBEB back to serious business.
He also stated that conducive teaching and learning environment, retraining of teachers as well as award of scholarships to Abia children have been the hallmark of his administration’s policies, in the area of education.
Ikpeazu commended the vision of former Governor of Abia, Chief Theodore Orji in conceptualising the building project when he was in power.
Ikpeazu urged pupils, parents and teachers to take advantage of the project to produce well educated future leaders of the State and nation.
He further called for proper management of the facility which gulped millions of naira in construction and furnishings.
Commissioner for Basic Education in Abia, Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma described the commissioning of ASUBEB project as a milestone in the history of the State.
Emma noted that the commitment of Abia State government to the development of basic education was responsible for the best positions achieved by students from schools in Abia State during external examinations.
