The traditional ruler of Umueri, in Anambra East local govt area, Igwe Benneth Emeka, in company of Umueri royal cabinet has unveiled the Eri House, Center for research in Igbo history and culture situate in Umueri and inaugurated its seventeen member team.
The team was specifically constituted for the purpose of conducting research on history, culture and gathering potentials of different communities in Igbo land, as well as help in developing them for posterity and growth of their communities.
The Eri House project is made of two sections namely; research and museum centre, library and skill acquisition centre, for training of youths in different skills to become employers of labour.
In his welcome address, Igwe Emeka appreciated God for the completion of the project, noting that Umueri is the cradle of Igbo community.
The Igwe also called on Ndi Umueri to give the team maximum support to enable them achieve the desired result for the progress of the Igbo communities.
While applauding Governor Obiano for his development projects in Umueri, Igwe Emeka disclosed that the Eri House was executed under the second phase of the Twenty Million Naira Community Choose Your Project Initiative of Governor Willie Obiano.
The Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Umueri General Assembly, Chief Sunday Nwarienne- Udealor and the Director, Eri Research Centre, Pastor Ben Agape, expressed happiness over the development, while noting the importance of research and culture. He said the centre will have a branch at Ikenga Umueri, where a crafts village will be built and replicated in every Igbo community that welcomes them.
The Eri House project is located at Oke-ebo Estate, Umueri, Anambra East.
The event featured cultural dances by Otu Odu cultural group and Ovoakwu primary school cultural dance group, prayers, among others.
