The former chairman listed his achievements to include housing projects for some members of the council, appointment of journalists as permanent secretaries in Abia State civil service, post-qualification educational programs for members, among others. The immediate past chairman urged his successor to build and consolidate on his achievements, while urging the new chairman to accommodate the interest of all members.

He scored 55 votes to defeat Comrade Boniface Okoro of Correspondent chapel, who garnered 29 votes. The election, which was conducted in an organized atmosphere, also saw Comrade Chidi Asonye of Unity federated Chapel emerging the new Vice Chairman of the council.

All positions, except that of the chairman, had one candidate each, thus, returning them unopposed. The election was conducted by Comrade Ogbonnaya Iheaka, the former Chairman of Abia NUJ and witnessed by officials from NUJ national secretariat, Abuja.
