In a bid to effectively deliver relevant skills for effective increased reportage of cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV), the Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre (GPSDC), a Non-governmental organisation with support of Women Aid Collective (WACOL), and other partners, on Thursday, trained and empowered 30 media practitioners in Anambra State.
The one-day intensive media training for selected journalists and media practitioners in Anambra State held at the Vertex View Hotels, Awka South L.G.A, is aimed at providing project’s capacity-strengthening component, News Echo reports.
In her remark, the Executive Director, GPSDC, Eucharia Anaekwe, urged media practitioners to advocate for the rights of survivors of GBV and promote awareness that would assist in elimination of violence against genders.
Anaekwe, who described the training as part of the capacity-strengthening component of the NGO, explained that it was aimed at strengthening media capacity in sensitive reporting such as survivor-centred GBV reportage, accurate framing of gender issues and developing GBV-focused content so as to amplify the voices of survivors and vulnerable groups.
She added that it would reinforce collaboration with the media and implementing partners for increased advocacy for a safer and more gender-responsive in Anambra State and Nigeria generally.
“GPSDC with support from Women Aid Collective (WACOL), is implementing the project titled ‘Empowering Christian Women and Women Leaders of Culture for the Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria Through the Strengthening of Grassroots Organisations.
