The Anambra State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN has appointed Comrade Godwin Ugo Okoye as the acting Chairman.

The event which took place on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the National Secretariat had in attendance executives and representatives of state Chairmen where a new leadership structure emerged in the Anambra Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), following the actions of the former Chairman, Surveyor Emeka Obi which according to constitutional action taken by the NYCN National Executive Council (NEC) as what was described and confirmed as acts of insubordination and executive misconduct by the suspended State Chairman.

The appointment letter was presented to Comr Okoye by the National President of NYCN Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sokubo in the presence of National Vice President, South East, Comr Amb Innocent Nduanya and other youth-based association leaders.

Reacting to the leadership change, the Deputy President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria Headquarters, Amb. Innocent Nduanya, who is also from Anambra State, commended the NEC for enforcing constitutional discipline and restoring order in the state chapter.

According to him, the Council acted strictly within constitutional bounds to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the organisation, especially at a time when the NYCN must demonstrate consistency, unity, and transparency in youth leadership. He further noted that the emergence of Comrade Okoye reflects the trust the national body has in his capacity, discipline, and commitment to the ideals of the Council.

Amb. Nduanya also described the restructuring as timely and essential for repositioning the Anambra State Chapter for more effective youth engagement, while calling on stakeholders to support the new leadership in the interest of the state’s young population. He urged the Acting Chairman to uphold the NYCN Constitution, maintain absolute loyalty to the apex body, and work harmoniously with all youth structures across the state to drive developmental programmes.

Speaking shortly after receiving his appointment letter in Awka on Friday, Comrade Okoye expressed gratitude to the National Executive Council for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the assignment is both a privilege and a call to higher responsibility. He pledged to prioritise unity, reorganisation, and credible youth participation across the 21 local government areas of the state.

He also pledged to run an inclusive administration that would strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and restore the vibrancy for which the Anambra NYCN was known.

According to him, his immediate focus is stabilising the chapter, engaging critical youth bodies, and ensuring that all outstanding administrative issues are resolved in line with constitutional provisions.

Meanwhile, Comrade Okoye is expected to assume full administrative duties immediately and oversee the affairs of NYCN Anambra, pending when a substantive Chairman by the National Secretariat.
