Residents are now living in fear in Omalima Layout, Oze, Nkwelle-Ezunaka, in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, following a disturbing case of alleged land theft and violent intimidation reportedly involving individuals linked to government offices. Eyewitnesses and affected property owners allege that a group of men invaded the community, laying claim to several plots of land belonging to lawful owners and tenants, triggering fear, confusion, and deep sorrow among residents.

According to accounts from the area, the men reportedly identified themselves as representatives of the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security under the AVM Department. Community members alleged that some of those involved included Hon. Chiejina Obieze, Sunday Ogaazi, Izuu (popularly known as “One Man 30”), Chukwuma Okpolaezeukwu who is an Ssa ton security and a youth leader of oheadieze Ndi Igbo who ought to protect lives and property. The group allegedly claimed to be acting on government orders, a claim residents insist is false, accusing them of trespassing, intimidation, and illegal demolition under the guise of official authority.

One affected landowner, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed shock and anguish over the incident. “Why will some people use the name of government to intimidate others in this state? They said they were sent by the AVM office at the old Government House to take over our land. Even properties belonging to All Saints Anglican Church were demolished,” the source lamented. Residents further alleged that a woman lost her life during the chaos while trying to protect her property, and that others were threatened to pay money or risk demolition—claims that have intensified public outrage and grief.

The human toll of the incident has been particularly heartbreaking, with the case of a widow, Mrs. Amaka Ezechukwu, drawing widespread sympathy. Her newly completed six-room apartment with a parlour and security house—allegedly the only property left by her late husband—was reportedly demolished. Tearfully pleading for justice, she and other residents have called on Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo to intervene urgently. The community insists the land was legally purchased from recognized owners in Oyi and that all documents are intact. As of press time, no official statement has been issued by the Anambra State Government or the AVM Department, while community leaders, church representatives, and civil rights advocates continue to appeal for swift investigation, accountability, and restoration of peace.
