Izuchukwu Mbakwe who was shot dead on March 26 will be buried on June 16, 2023 at his family’s compound in Okaiuga Nkwoegwu, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State. 29-year-year-old Izuchukwu was shot dead in front of De Choice Fast Food at No.2 Market road, Umuahia by a trigger-happy security man, Ernest Udemezugo, posted to work at the Fast Food.
Izuchukwu who was a staff of De Choice before the incident, was allegedly shot by the security man who was a staff of Abia State Vigilant Service, for allegedly demanding the payment of his 4 months salaries. The Abia State Vigilante Service man was alleged to have pulled his Pump Action gun on the victim, making him to bleed profusely until he was confirmed dead at Federal Medical Centre Umuahia where he was rushed to. It was initially alleged that the Manager of De Choice ordered the security man on duty to shoot the victim for allegedly fighting him because of salary. It was also alleged that the victim was shot dead over a small mobile phone.
But the management of De Choice in a statement promptly denied ordering the security man to shoot the victim as alleged by some persons but maintained that it never compromised on the security and welfare of its staff. The company commiserated with the family of the late Izuchukwu over the sad incident and promised to ensure that proper investigation was carried out on the matter.
Before his untimely death, Izuchukwu was based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates but returned to the country in late 2022 to pick a job at De Choice Fast Food while processing travel documents for a travel to the Western county. In their demands for justice, the family of Mbakwes led by the traditional ruler Umuosu Okaiuga Nkwoegwu, HRH Eze Nzenwata Mbakwe, Professor Roy Mbakwe and Onyema Mbakwe maintained that their late son must get justice, adding that the murder should not be swept under the carpet.
They described their late son as a peaceful man who was cut down in cold blood. Abia State Command promised that the killer security man was in their custody and was undergoing investigations. The killer vigilant officer had since been dismissed by his office, Abia State Vigilante Service to face the music.
