Family of dead Police officers receive N27.8m compensation from IGP in Abia

Families of 32 Policemen who died in active service in Abia State Police Command have been compensated by the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. Also, three Policemen who were injured in active service are to share from the N27.8m .

Presenting the cheque to the families of the victims at Police headquarters, Umuahia, Abia State Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie who represented the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said the cheques were in appreciation of the fallen and injured officers’ sacrifices. He stated that the IGP is pained by the unfortunate death and injury suffered by the Policemen, describing their patriotism as bravery.

He explained that the Nigerian Police Force would never abandon the families of the dead and injured officers in their period of pains and in the future. The Abia Police Commissioner encouraged the bereaved to still see themselves as members of the Police family and to still assist the Police in providing needful information about criminals in the State.

The Abia CP said that out of the 35 benefitting families, 12 of them were present in the Police headquarters to recieve their own cheques. He urged the beneficiaries to utilize the compensation in taking care of their needs. Responding on behalf of others, Abia State one of the sons of the dead Policemen, Mr Okey Nneameka David thanked the IGP , Kayode Egbetokun and Abia State Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie for the compensation, saying that the cheque presentation would assist them in solving some of their family challenges.

Some of the widows of the dead Police officers were emotional as tears stopped down their cheeks in remembrance of their dead breadwinners.
