The first Director General of National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Chief Chuku Wachuku has condemned donation of tricycles, cash gifts and sharing of foods as empowerment for youths in Nigeria. He stated that such items distributed, are not sustainable forms of true empowerment but a temporary ground which easily collapse after a short period.
Wachuku who made this known while speaking to News Echo in Mbawsi, his hometown, made it clear that unless real and sustainable job creating systems were put in place in Nigeria, the challenges of unemployment would not be defeated. Wachuku, who is the Senatorial candidate of Young Progressive Party (YPP) for Abia Central district, promised to bring to bear, his expertise in economy, job creation, resource management in Abia Central if elected the next Senator. “Giving Keke NAPEP to people as a way of empowering them cannot end poverty and unemployment.
It is only the building of sustainable employment systems and exposing the youths to sustainable job schemes that can create lasting jobs.” “Anybody who gives you Keke and tells you he has empowered you has not told you the truth”, he said. The Mbawsi Prince challenged youths to key into sustainable skills acquisition programs that can lift them and their families and not clamouring for crumbs that come in form of shaky empowerment. He further promised to go into solid partnership with Osisioma-based Geometric Power LTD to ensure that there would be adequate power supply for industrial clusters he plans to establish in Abia Central, which he said, would give jobs to 500 persons in each LGA of the Senatorial district and 250 jobs in each political ward in Abia Central.
He described himself as the most prepared candidate in the Abia Central race, adding that his party is not afraid of other political parties. The ex-NDE boss assured that if elected, he would use legislative instruments and responsibility to ensure that the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu is given fair hearings and possibly released. “Nnamdi Kanu is my constituent and when am elected, I will use legislative instruments to ensure that he is given fair trial. The law says you are innocent until found guilty and in his own case for now, he is still innocent until proven otherwise. I won’t abandon him if am elected. He is my constituent.”
