Vacation Judge of Umuahia High Court, Justice Kelechi Okereke has adjourned Norah Okafor vs EFCC suit to October 18, 2021.
This is even as the Judge has said that the matter would be transferred to a regular court where it would be entertained.
He stated this when the matter came up for hearing on Thursday.
The suit, which was brought by Mrs. Norah Okafor, a female journalist and resident of Ehimiri Housing Estate, Umuahia, was filed by the Journalist, who among other things, accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of invading and invading her home by night.
She is demanding N20m compensation and a public apology from the EFCC on the illegal and unconstitutional invasion of her home and abuse of her fundamental human rights.
The invasion which took place on October 21, according Mrs. Okafor, was allegedly carried out by operatives of the EFCC who she said, ransacked her home and those of her neighbors, in search of suspected criminals.
When the matter came up, neither the EFCC nor its legal representative was in Court, even as the Counsel to Okafor, Barr. Hagler Okorie said the respondent was served notice of application through a court bailiff.
Justice Okereke who is the vacation Judge said the litigation would be transferred to a regular court because the cacation court expired on September 30.
Addressing journalists after the adjournment, Norah Okafor’s counsel, Barr. Hagler Okorie said that he and his client approached the Court to interpret for them if the Invasion by EFCC was in tandem with the mandate of the crime fighting organisation and to establish for them if EFCC had any legal mandate according to the Act that established the agency, to carry out the wee hour raid.
The Lawyer lamented the mental torture his client suffered from the unconstitutional actions of the EFCC operatives and expressed hope that the Court would grant the prayers of his client.
