A new coalition of political parties under the auspices of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has held its first-ever convergence meeting in Awka, Anambra State, in a bid to reshape citizens’ political destiny.

The event which took place at the Geo Gold hotels on 5th June, 2025 had in attendance stakeholders of Labour Party, All Progressive Party, People’s Democratic Party, African Democratic Congress, Action Alliance, and new members charged with a commitment to reclaim Anambra state come Nov, 8th.

In a welcome address, Anambra State Chairman of ADC Comrade Patrick Obianyo said that the convergence is not merely a gathering but a movement and a declaration of readiness to reclaim Anambra and restore her place as the true light of the nation.

“We stand here not just as Party members, but as visionaries, patriots and bearers of renewed hope for Ndi Anambra. We are here for the future of our children. We are here because we believe that Anambra can rise again through visionary, people-centred governance”.

“Our great party – ADC has assembled a formidable coalition of the wise and the youthful, of women and men of value, of professionals, market leaders, artisans, and students, all aligned in one spirit; to rebuild the dignity of our people and reshape our political destiny.

Let me say this to you, our mission is sacred. We will restore our values and uplift our communities. We will bring back our young ones from the path of despair to the path of honour not hounding them, not imprisoning them but empowering them”.

Governorship Candidate of ADC, Mr John Chuma Nwosu, represented by the Deputy Governorship Candidate of ADC, Hon Sir Geoffrey Ndubuisi Nwobu Ph.d said “What we have here is leaders who have come together to liberate the state. Nigeria is now influenced by insecurity ranging from kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery among others. The corruption in this country has blossomed, the poverty being experienced, inflation seen and that is why the ADC as a party have offered its platforms as a veritable platform for those who wish to rescue the country”.

We are here to deliver Anambra with a chosen alternative that will bring development. But we have a lot of work to do that will be anchored on perseverance, diligence and commitment. We must play this politics in mind, and solidarity. Anambra is an entrepreneurial hub and as a shining light, no party can help other than ADC. Let’s work together so we can salvage it together”.

He urged members to be more focused on the victory and not the position. “It’s more important you work to deliver the party rather than vying for positions.

Adding, a political Guru and university Don, Dr Patrick Omuku noted that “apart from another political party, ADC stands unique and exceptional and therefore we must work in a unique way to deliver the mandate of the party”.

In his lecture, Director of Peace, Security and Development Studies Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Jaja Chukwuemeka Nwanegbo stressed that forming a coalition party is vital and tends to aim at achieving police gains Such Formations were borne out of dedicated and experienced political opinion moulders and officers holders.

He Advised stakeholders not to go for numbers but to go for commitments and delivery. “Interest is very much important and so there is more reason to have harmony among party members and the society”. Adding that there is timely intervention of planned activities and a more skilled coalition at different levels.

Meanwhile, the highlight of the events was the presentation of ADC-branded polos and face caps to coalition partners, marking a united front in their quest to provide an alternative voice for the people of Anambra and beyond.
