The Governing Council of Abia State University Teaching Hospital, (ABSUTH), Aba have dismissed the speculation that staff of the hospital appealed to the Senate Chief Whip and former governor state, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to pay their salaries on behalf of the state government.
The council in a statement signed by the chairman, Dr. Davidson Wokoh, Wednesday, urged Abians and the general public to disregard the reports credited to the state Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Chimezie Okwuonu.

Wokoh said the report was sponsored by those who are out to destroy the good works in the state.
He stated that the state government had already commenced payment of salary arrears owed ABSUTH staff in line with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s earlier promise, maintaining that the first tranche of salary was recently received by the staff.

Wokoh described the report as an embarrassment to both the state government and the dedicated staff of the school.
Various social media platforms were on Monday and Tuesday awash with reports of ABSUTH staff begging Senator Kalu to come to their rescue by paying their salaries and other entitlements.
Efforts to speak with the Chairman of NMA, Abia State, Dr. Okwuonu at Federal Medical Centre Umuahia where he works, on Wednesday, yielded no positive results as he was said to be busy attending to patients.
