The new Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu, Prof Maxwell Ogbulu, has expressed his appreciation to various staff unions of the university for suspending the strike actions they embarked upon, saying that it was the best thing to happen to the school at the moment.
The Vice Chancellor gave the kudos on Wednesday in his office in Uturu when he received the leaders of Faculty of Social Science of the school who paid him a congratulatory and solidarity visit.
Prof. Ogbulu noted that the progress of the school required the contribution and commitment of every staff to endure the full realisation of the school’s visions, while commending the various staff unions for heeding his appeal to suspend the industrial actions they embarked upon, observing that the school risked the threat of collapse if the strike actions continued.
According to the VC, “The progress of the university is a collective project that requires the contribution of all, and as stakeholders, no part should fold hands and watch this project collapse.”
He further expressed gratitude to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for finding him worthy to head the school, out of the sea of other qualified academics.
Speaking on behalf of other dons , the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Abia State University, Prof Gregory Nwizu pledged their total support to the new Vice Chancellor, Prof Maxwell Ogbulu and congratulated him on his appointment.
Other Professors from the Faculty of Social Sciences present during the visit included Profs Dick Uduma, Obari Okereke, Amanze Anagha and Prof J. O. Onwuka, the former Dean of the Faculty.
Meanwhile, the post – Unified Tertiary Matriculation (UTME) test of the Abia State University for 2020/2021 academic year would start on Monday, 18th January 2021.
A release on Wednesday from the Registrar of the institution, Mr Acho Elendu said that only candidates who scored 160 marks and above in UTME exams and possessed at least 5 O’level passes in accordance with the university entry requirements were qualified for the aptitude test.
The entrance examinations, the release stated, would commence with the candidates of medicine and medical sciences.
The release added that the test for Faculty of Law and Agricultural Sciences would hold on Umuahia Campus while those of other faculties would hold in Uturu Campus, but making it clear that all the tests would be conducted in respect to all Covid-19 rules.
