Abia State government has threatened to take up legal actions against anyone or group that publish false information against the State government or its officials, on social media.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Anthony Agbazuere gave the warning while speaking to journalists at government house Umuahia, warning that those involved should “refrain from such unpatriotic and irreverent conducts”.

Agbazuere, who stated that such false social media publications were aimed at disparaging the State government and its officials, noted that they did so to “satisfy themselves or their sponsors.”

According to him, government would be constrained to fully resort to extant laws against such uncharitable individuals except they purge themselves.
The Chief of Staff equally warned that commenting, sharing or supporting of false social media publications against the State government and its officials by any individual, group or “their sponsors” could also land such persons in trouble.

He however said that the Ikpeazu-led government was open to advises and “constructive criticisms but not intentional and willful publishing of falsehood for political and selfish reasons.”
Commissioner for Documentation and Strategic Communications , Mr. Ugochukwu Emezuo was present during the CoS’ briefing.
