Wife of the Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti has charged nursing mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for their healthy growth and development. She gave the charge at her conference room in government house Umuahia during the advocacy visit of a delegation from the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
Mr Otti commended the efforts of health workers in the Abia and appreciated them for contributions to healthcare delivery in the State. She described the outlined programmes of the state primary healthcare development agency including the global breastfeeding week, Human dapilloma virus vaccine introduction and measles campaign as apt and geared towards promoting the healthcare development in the state.
The wife of the Governor urged nursing mothers to maximize the opportunities of this breastfeeding week to increase their knowledge on how to improve their healthcare as nursing mothers and assured of the administration’s determination to promoting quality healthcare for Abians.
Speaking, the acting Executive Secretary Abia state primary healthcare and development agency, Mrs Meg Onwu, said the advocacy visit was to intimate the wife of the governor of health programmes in the state that require the support of Governor Alex Otti for them to record success like other states. She disclosed that they have started rallies and campaigns towards sensitizing the the public on the health benefits of the programmes and how to make them successful.
In their remarks, the representative World Health Organization, WHO, Dr Carol Iwuoha, the State Coordinator National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Mrs Egwu Amobi among other donor agencies stated their readiness to support health programmes in the state to boost quality healthcare and rating of the state at the national and International arena.
