Members of Association of Local Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Abia State have removed their chairman, Hon. Michael Ibe Nwoke from office with a directive that he hands off the association’s property in his possession.

In a joint letter signed by 16 council bosses, they accused Nwoke of allegedly falling below the expected standard in the discharge of his duties which according to them, were capable of inhibiting developments in the grassroots.

The elected Chairmen also disowned a press release reportedly issued by the removed chairman, where he alleged that a cabal was interfering in the running of Abia local government councils and their resources.

The sixteen council bosses wondered why a press release of such nature would be issued by Nwoke without their knowledge or mandate and therefore passed a vote of no confidence on him, warning the general public against transacting further business with him in that capacity.

They promised that a fresh election would soon be held to elect a new Chairman who would run the association with the collective and support of all members.

The Abia local government leaders pledged their continued support for Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration’s policies, which they said, were people-oriented.

Efforts made to hear from Nwoke concerning his sack were not successful but he had earlier in the week, alleged that his life was under threat by some unidentified persons because of his insistence that the local governments in Abia should be allowed to manage their resources independently, as authorised by the constitution.
