A 3-storey building still under construction has collapsed at Ahiake Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia, Abia State during rainfall.
The building, according to some neighbours, was started some years ago and abandoned, until the owner decided to resume works on the house recently.
He contracted a builder known as “Engineer” to add one more floor to the house, to make it a 3-storey house.
It was in the process of adding the last floor that the house collapsed, according to a resident of Ahiaeke, Simon Kelechi.
The eye witness said he heard a thunderous sound at about 11:00pm during a rainfall which shook the foundations of the neighborhood.
Kelechi thanked God, no life was lost as the incident happened Saturday night when site workers were not on duty, as it would have caused calamity.
He further claimed that the owner of the house is from Okwuano LGA.
Abia State commissioner for Housing could not be reached for comments while officials of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Abia State chapter when contacted, promised to visit the venue to carry out on-the-site investigations.
