The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere has declared that the party would provide a level playing ground for all interested aspirants in the party, come 2023.
Okere stated this in Umuahia while speaking to newsmen after a State Executive Council meeting of the party, assuring that his party would maintain internal democracy, peace and unity to the benefit of all members of the umbrella party.
He explained that it was the internal democracy mechanism put in place by the PDP that resulted in the party’s sweeping victory during the local government elections, adding that it was also the focus and united efforts of all members that led to the PDP’s victory during the Aba North/Aba South federal House of Representatives bye-election in 2021, describing the victories as ‘landslide’.
Okere, who expressed his satisfaction at reign of peace in Abia State under the leadership of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, vowed that all elective positions in Abia State would be won by the PDP in 2023 and beyond, attributing his optimism to the achievements of the party on ground so far.
He informed that no anointed aspirant or candidate had been picked in the party for any elective post neither had any position been zoned to any senatorial zone.
“The party has no anointed candidate for any seat but will give equal opportunity to all aspirants to test their popularity through the ballot papers in a level playing ground in all future elections in the State”, said the Abia PDP Chairman.
He canvassed more support from Abia residents for the PDP, as according to him, his party remained the best choice for the people.
