Anambra: Tragedy as 2 perish in fatal accident

Tragedy struck on Tuesday as a red (Howo Tipper) with no registration number and an ash Toyota Corolla with registration number: HTE 365 CU crashed leaving 2 male adults instantly dead.

News Echo reports that the fatal accident took place along the Onitsha-Awka expressway at about 0700hrs with four male adults involved in the crash.

Confirming the report, Ag, Sector Public Education Officer for Sector Commander Anambra State FRSC, DRC Margaret B Onabe, said “A fatal Road traffic crash occurred at Ogbunike hill by slaughter, by Onitsha-Awka express way today 7th December, 2021 at about 0700hrs”.

“The crash was between two vehicles. An unidentified driver of a red (Howo Tipper) with no registration number. And unidentified driver a ash Toyota Corolla with registration number: HTE 365 CU”.
He further stated that the “probable cause of the fatal crash was attributed to road obstruction (OBS) and excessive speed”.

According to an eyewitness report, the tipper developed fault on the road and the Toyota Corolla rammed into the Tipper from the rear and crashed.

As at the time of filling this report, the dead victims were taken by their families. However, the FRSC rescue team was on ground controlling traffic.

The Sector Commander Anambra State Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi commiserates with the families of the dead victims while urging drivers to maintain safe speed limits and also ensure their vehicles are in good condition before hitting the road.
