Atleast one unidentified person have been confirmed dead and twelve others injured in in a ghastly motor accident which occurred at the Odumodu, Nteje junction in Oyi Local Government area of the state.

The incidence which happened on Saturday, 1st July equally left five Vehicles Damaged beyond repair and residents raising concern about the bad road that has served as death trap to commuters. Ag. Sector Public Education Officer for Anambra State FRSC, RC Margaret B Onabe in a statement made avaliable to NewsEcho during the weekend, said “Five Unidentified drivers were involved in a fatal road traffic crash at Odumodu junction Umuya by Nteje-Awka Expressway today 1st July, 2023 at about 12:40hrs”.

The Vehicles involved were, a RTEAN Toyota Haice with Vehicle Reg. No: ENU 32 XD, a Mack tanker with Vehicle Reg. No: LSD 339 XA, (with PMS), A private Toyota Yaris with Vehicle Reg. No: KSF 646 BZ, A commercial Mack tanker by name Shafa Energy with Vehicle Reg. No: BAU 305 ZE, and a private Toyota Camry with Vehicle Reg. No: ABN 64 JA.

An eye witness recounts that the driver of the truck with registration number LSD 339 XA lost control as a result of speed; thereby causing multiple collision of four other vehicles. Another, Mr Kenechukwu, an okay rider who spoke to our correspondent said; “I was waiting for passenger when I suddenly saw a trailer coming from Onitsha with speed, immediately he got closer to he couldn’t hold the break thereby ramming into an incoming trailer in between a bus loaded with passengers”.

One of the survivors who refused to disclose her name while wailing profusely said they were on their way to Enugu when suddenly she heard a big bang and all she she could remember was blood, passengers and their traveling bags littered everywhere. According to FRSC, Twenty six people comprising (20 male adults, and 6 female adults) were involved in the crash. Injured victims were 12 comprising (9 male adults, and 3 female adults) while One male adult was killed and 13 people were rescued unhurt. The FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje in collaboration with a team of Officers and men from Anambra Sector Command, Awka rushed the victim to Boromi and Divine Favour Hospital, Umuya. Meanwhile, the Sector Commander Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi and the Head of Operations DCC Okora Awassam visited the crash scene. The Sector Commander Anambra State Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi sympathized with the family of the dead victim and wishes the injured victims quick recovery. He seriously warned motorist to desist from speeding and ensure they drive within minimum safe speed to save their lives and that of other road users.
