The National Patron, Police Community Relations Committee, (PCRC ), Sir Mishak Nnanta, has commended the new Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr Kenechukwu Onwuemelie’s directives which resulted in the reopening the blocked roads in Umuahia.
This is even as the PCRC Chairman in Abia , Ambassador Emma Nwosu has appealed to the Police Commissioner to set up a taskforce that will hunt and arrest fake police officers causing mayhem in Aba.
Speaking at the Commissioner of Police office in Umuahia, when the Abia PCRC executive paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Onwuemelie, Nnanta, recalled that the blocked left lanes of the major roads in front of Nigerian Correctional Service, Aba road and lanes of the Bende road (The road, which runs through two major Police facilities, Abia State Police Command headquarters and Central Police Station), Umuahia for about two years, made it hard for vehicle owners to navigate the lanes.
Nnanta, who called for a sustained collaboration with the PCRC, noted that the organization has over the years carried out verifiable projects in the state, even as he appreciated the new Police Commissioner for his traceable track record of achievements in crime fighting.
Presenting an address earlier, the PCRC Abia State command Chairman, Ambassador Emma Nwosu decried the illegal arrests of some citizens and residents, allegedly being carried out by some people who parade themselves as Police officers, especially in Aba. He alleged that such officers move around with POS machines extorting money from those they accused of Yahoo-Yahoo unapproved ventures, adding, “A lot of evil is going on, Commissioner Sir, these men are wracking havoc”.
The Abia PCRC Chairman who reeled out the achievements of the organization under his watch, reassured CP Onwuemelie of the maximum support of members to make his stay in the State a success. “Sir, PCRC Abia State command was able to achieve all these due to the cordial relationship between us and the Police command in Abia State and we pray that this will continue unabated”, Nwosu stated further. Responding, the new Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kenechukwu Onwuemelie appreciated PCRC executives for the visit and their positive contributions to the Police command.
Onwuemelie, who vividly recalled that his father was once a Chairman of PCRC Anambra State, assured that the symbiotic relationship between them will continue to be maintained and sustained too. He further assured them that the challenges they have listed out would be looked into and also follow the proper procedures towards handling them.
